This page is dedicated to Laina Stapleton's favorite books of each year. From 2012-2017, I picked my one favorite book that I read in the previous year. The book must have been read during that calendar year and published in either that year or the one previous. I always included a read-a-like list and a video of some kind, but every thing else there is sort of at my whim.
In 2018, I made two very important changes. First, the book could have been published at any point. Second, I decided to allow myself to highlight all of my favorite books from that year if picking one was too much of a problem. I felt that I was really hindering my reading choices by restricting the publication years, and I noticed that I tended to choose books by publication date rather than what I really wanted to read. I also just managed to read a ton of really great books that year and truly could not pick just one. The idea for this continuing project grew out of an assignment I did while I was completing my Master's degree at UNC-Chapel Hill in Fall 2012. The assignment required us to create a resource for an award winner from the previous two years, including a book trailer, a read-a-like list, and anything else we'd like to include. I completed the resource before the year was over, but the book I chose ended up being my favorite of the year. Because of this, I simply use the resource I created for that class as my 2012 book page. Every other year is embedded within this site. The current year's page is an ongoing list of my favorites for this year's book. |
